Every eligible question has equal weight. Your score with a member is the number of matching recorded Yes/No votes divided by the number you can compare. Skipped questions, other responses, and missing records do not count as disagreements. Votes outside the selection ranges for that chamber are excluded entirely.
Answer at least five eligible questions for a chamber to receive its compatibility scores. A member needs a recorded Yes or No on at least 80% of your answered, eligible questions. Completing all 20 questions provides 18 eligible State Assembly answers and 20 eligible Senate answers. Questions without a qualifying, comparable vote for a chamber are excluded from its scores. Other members remain browsable with their available comparisons and “Insufficient votes.” Ties share a rank; names are alphabetical within ties.
W-NOMINATE supplies the vote selection and recorded member responses. We use its angle2adj field: 80–100° inclusive for first-dimension votes, and strictly below 20° or above 160° for second-dimension votes. Eligibility is checked independently for each chamber, using unrounded angles. Questions provide a mix of policy areas from qualifying votes. Both dimensions are included where usable votes are available; the angle cutoffs are never widened to fill a quota.
The question set is fixed to a reviewed W-NOMINATE snapshot for term 2025–2026, using the 2025 and 2026 regular sessions. Each bill detail shows its roll-call ID, selection angle, and model link. Compatibility uses actual recorded responses, not fitted vote probabilities or distance between ideological scores. Questions describe the selected passage or conference-report votes, which can differ from the eventual law; a vote does not establish a member’s reasons.
Members available in the source roster remain browsable even without enough comparable votes. They are listed by the chamber represented by these records, including members who subsequently left or changed chambers. A person who served in both chambers can have two different comparisons. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number; rankings use the underlying fractions.
